What Therapy With Me Looks Like
Updated: Oct 6
I do not believe therapy should feel like sitting in a room while someone gives generic advice or waits for you to figure everything out on your own.
My style is direct, collaborative, and practical. We work to understand what is happening, what is keeping the problem going, and what can realistically change. I may ask difficult questions, point out patterns, teach skills, or help connect current reactions to past experiences, but you should understand why we are doing it.
No judgment. No canned answers. No pressure to tell your entire story before you are ready. Therapy should have enough structure to be useful and enough flexibility to fit the person sitting in the room.
Some sessions may focus on symptoms and coping. Others may focus on relationships, identity, grief, trauma, decisions, or patterns that keep repeating. The goal is not perfection. The goal is more awareness, more choice, and better control over how you respond to what life puts in front of you.
If something in therapy is not helping, I want clients to be able to say that. Good counseling is a working relationship, not a performance.
If you are considering adult individual counseling, review session information and decide whether the approach fits what you need. View availability on Headway for virtual appointments, insurance information, and cost estimates, or read what to expect when starting therapy.
