Stress, Burnout & Adjustment Counseling
Updated: Oct 6
You do not have to be in a major mental health crisis for counseling to be useful. Sometimes the problem is that stress has been building for so long that exhaustion, irritability, poor sleep, and lack of motivation have started to feel normal.
Burnout can affect concentration, patience, relationships, physical energy, work performance, and the ability to recover even when there is time to rest. Major changes can create similar strain when the demands of adjustment outpace the resources available to manage them.
Counseling can help identify what is draining you, what is outside your control, what patterns are making the stress worse, and where practical changes are possible. That may include boundaries, workload, expectations, recovery habits, communication, coping strategies, or decisions that have been avoided.
The goal is not simply to tolerate more. It is to build a more sustainable way of functioning and regain a sense of control over how you respond to pressure.
When responsibilities leave little room to recover
Work, caregiving, family demands, and major transitions can leave you feeling stretched thin. You may notice that it is harder to disconnect, make decisions, or maintain routines that used to help. Counseling can begin with the pressures you are facing now and what you would like to change.
We can discuss the relationship between your responsibilities, expectations, boundaries, and available support. My approach is practical and collaborative. Together, we can identify goals and strategies that fit your actual circumstances, including steps you can try between sessions.
Working toward changes you can use
The focus may include recognizing patterns that keep you overextended, making space for recovery, considering communication or boundary changes, and working through the uncertainty of a transition. We will also review what has helped before and what has become difficult to sustain. Therapy is a place to examine these concerns without needing to have a complete solution first.
I provide individual online counseling for adults located in Texas. Sessions are typically 60 minutes. Check Headway for current openings, accepted insurance, and cost estimates. For a general question before scheduling, use the Contact page and keep sensitive health details out of routine website inquiries.
If ongoing stress is making work, rest, or relationships harder to manage, you can discuss practical goals in adult individual counseling. View availability on Headway for virtual appointments, insurance information, and cost estimates, or read what to expect when starting therapy.
