Therapy for Men Who Do Not Want to Sit Around Talking About Feelings

Some men avoid therapy because they picture an hour of being asked how they feel while nothing practical happens. If that is your expectation, it makes sense that therapy would not sound appealing.

Good counseling can be much more concrete. What is happening? What is not working? What keeps repeating? What do you want to be different? Those are useful questions whether the problem is anger, stress, trauma, relationships, sleep, anxiety, or feeling stuck.

You do not have to perform therapy

You do not need the perfect words. You do not need to cry. You do not need to tell every detail of your past. You can start with what is affecting your life today.

A therapist can help identify patterns, challenge assumptions, teach skills, and give direct feedback without turning the session into something that feels artificial.

Practical still includes emotion

Ignoring emotion entirely usually does not work either. Anger, fear, grief, shame, and disappointment can affect decisions and behavior whether we talk about them or not.

The goal is not to become more emotional. The goal is to understand enough about your reactions that you have more control over what happens next.

If you are considering adult individual counseling, review session information and decide whether the approach fits what you need. View availability on Headway for virtual appointments, insurance information, and cost estimates, or read what to expect when starting therapy.
